
Elephant Trunk nebula in constellation Cepheus
The Elephant's Trunk Nebula (IC 1396) is hydrogen emission nebula in the constellation Cepheus. It is called the Elephant's Trunk nebula because of its appearance at visible wavelenghts. It consists mostly of hydrogen gas, glowing red. This deep sky object is located approx 2400 light years away from Earth. Picture taken with newtonian telescope (750mm focal length), astronomy monochrome camera, RGB and H-alpha narrowband filters. Total exposure time: 4 hours.
